Employers and Manufacturers Association (EMA) Northern - Literacy Awareness Seminar

Literacy Awareness Seminar

Are low literacy and numeracy levels in your workforce impacting on your business?
Low employee literacy and communication skills (including low levels of English language) can undermine the efforts of organisations to improve performance and productivity.

In an effort to counteract this, the government provides the Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WLN) Fund to provide training in speaking and listening skills as well as reading, writing and maths, from an expert tutor, and at your workplace.

Come to our seminar and hear how it all works – illustrated with a case study from an organisation that has run a number of literacy programmes in their workplace.

•          Organisation case study: Southern Paprika – Sheryl Lewis, HR and Training Manager

In 2010, Sheryl attended a seminar just like this one, as the company were concerned that differing levels of language and communication abilities may be affecting internal and external communication.  In particular, they identified that the ability to speak English was an issue which was affecting levels of performance in the organisation.  As a result, they ran a programme for sixteen of their staff, all of whom completed the programme.  The company were so pleased with the results that they continued with another programmes in 2011 and again in 2016 and 2017.  Sheryl says We have happier, more communicative staff that are comfortable now to share knowledge, information and ideas.  We are reaping the benefits of the training.  Sheryl will highlight the benefits that the company and the participants in the programme have experienced.

•          Training provider: Edvance

Edvance currently enjoy the highest rating of Category 1 from NZQA, and are committed to providing quality programmes delivered in the workplace.  The team from Edvance will be able to explain the government funding available and to answer any questions you may have around supporting your staff for these types of programmes.
