Employers and Manufacturers Association (EMA) Northern - Literacy Awareness Seminar

Literacy Awareness Seminar

Are low literacy and numeracy levels in your workforce impacting on your business?
Low employee literacy and communication skills (including low levels of English language) can undermine the efforts of organisations to improve performance and productivity.

In an effort to counteract this, the government provides the Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WLN) Fund to provide training in speaking and listening skills as well as reading, writing and maths, from an expert tutor, and at your workplace.
Come to our seminar and hear how it all works – illustrated with a case study from an organisation that has run a number of literacy programmes in their workplace.

•          Organisation case study: Z Energy retailer Larry Tupa'i-Lavea of Aiga Energy
In 2015, Larry was instrumental in setting up a communication and literacy programme for 20 staff in West Auckland.  The focus of the programme was improving oral communication skills, active listening skills, conducting effective team meetings, email and writing skills and understanding financial documents.
The programme was so successful that the majority of Z stores’ staff in the West attended the programme and when Larry moved to South Auckland he continued with the programme for his teams there and each programme has been equally effective for his people.
“This programme has given my staff a boost in their confidence and they work so much more effectively as a team.  The communication has improved and they now have an understanding of Monthly Sales Reports which has led to greater accountability for their performance,” says Larry.
He will highlight the benefits that his company and the participants in the programme have experienced.

•          Training provider: Edvance
Edvance currently enjoys the highest trainer rating of Category 1 from NZQA, and is committed to providing quality programmes delivered in the workplace.  The team from Edvance will be able to explain the government funding available and to answer any questions you may have around supporting your staff for these types of programmes.
Come along and find out how this kind of training would help your organisation.  There is no cost but registration is required for catering purposes.
