Employers and Manufacturers Association (EMA) Northern - Drugs and Alcohol in the Workplace (Webinar)

Drugs and Alcohol in the Workplace (Webinar)

A live, interactive session about substance abuse and its effects on the workplace

Who’s this course for?

Are you a manager or supervisor in any kind of organisation who has to confront these issues? Do you want to establish a substance-free workplace? Then this webinar is for you.

What’s included?

  • Illicit drug use in New Zealand: the common drugs and how to identify them
  • The requirement to act in good faith under the Employment Relations Act 2000 and to provide a safe working environment under the Health and Safety at Work Act (2015)
  • Developing a drug and alcohol policy that works
  • Monitoring, pre-employment testing, post-incident testing, random testing.

What you’ll learn:

Drugs and alcohol, even if consumed outside work hours, can impair staff. The results include poor concentration, carelessness, fatigue, risk-taking behaviour and errors in judgement. Misuse not only affects work performance, it also leads to higher rates of absenteeism, injury and even death. In this live, interactive, online session we’ll cover determining risk, justifying your approach and developing policies to address the issue.

After, you’ll be able to…

  • Initiate an alcohol- and drug-free policy
  • Manage and maintain the policy in the workplace.
  • Understand how to deal with alcohol and drug issues in your own, unique workplace environment.
