Who’s this course for?

If you engage contractors or subcontractors whose work activities are influenced or directed by the PCBU, this course should be viewed as essential. It’s suitable for all managers, supervisors, Health & Safety Representatives and workers involved in contractor engagement.

What’s included?

  • What PCBUs need to do when working with other PCBUs in the workplace.
  • How PCBUs with overlapping duties can meet their obligations to consult, cooperate and coordinate activities
  • Ways to manage the risks in a contracting framework
  • How to monitor contractor performance.

What you’ll learn:

Contracting services is common across a wide range of workplaces, making contractor safety a significant issue for many organisations. Under the Health and Safety at Work Act any Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBU) has a primary duty of care for contractors, their workers, subcontractors and the self-employed while at work. Because the primary duty of care under the Act is a broad overarching obligation, this workshop will help you better understand and manage your role and responsibilities in the contracting chain.

After, you’ll be able to…

  • Recognise the roles and responsibilities of a PCBU when engaging and managing contractors
  • Understand how contractor pre-qualification works
  • Review a contractor’s site-specific Health & Safety plan
  • Discuss the need for consultation, co-ordination and co-operation with contractors, and conduct a review of a contractor’s Health & Safety performance.
