Termination of Employment
Termination of Employment
This guide provides an overview of the circumstances that lead to termination and factors to consider when the employment relationship is ending.
There are different mechanisms by which an employment relationship can terminate. Each
mechanism has different implications for notice and payments of wages or salary.
Exit interviews may provide you with important information about the position and your organisation,
and provide closure for the employee.
Most employment relationships terminate on notice. In most instances, an employer and employee
may agree to treat that notice in a variety of different ways.
Even though an employment agreement may not provide for a mutual agreement to end the
employment relationship this does not prevent it from happening.
Employers are under no general obligation to provide character references.
The reason why an employment relationship terminates is personal information about the employee
which the employer must not disclose without the employee’s consent.
