Who’s this course for?

This course suits all industries and has a flexible structure to meet different needs. Safety supervisors, coordinators or team leaders will be the main candidates for the course and Health and Safety  responsibilities must form part of their role. The content assumes the candidate holds a National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety - Workplace Safety (Level 3) or has equivalent experience.  Candidates need the full support of their workplace, with access to systems and data for assessment work.


​What’s included?

  • The requirements of effective Health & Safety management, including Health and Safety  plan implementation
  • How to develop and implement hazard management systems
  • Incident investigation using proven and recognised methodology; how to address findings and implement changes
  • Auditing, assessing and improving Health & Safety management systems.


What you’ll learn:
This certificate-level course covers all the essential knowledge team leaders, supervisors and frontline managers need to contribute to workplace safety, healt​h and wellbeing. You’ll learn all the requirements, systems and processes involved in implementing an effective Health & Safety plan in the workplace.

Highly interactive, the programme consists of four two-day blocks of study plus related NZQA assessments.


After, you’ll be able to…

  • Communicate, implement, supervise and monitor job-specific health & safety requirements and practices in the workplace
  • Use leadership skills to promote the benefits of good  health & safety practices, and a proactive  health & safety culture, within a team
  • Apply your knowledge of  Health & Safety risk analyses and mitigation strategies 
  •  Understand the impact of work-related ill health and injuries on a specific business operation and the wider industry.​

Note: This is not a NZQA approved course. The EMA is currently preparing programme approval and accreditation applications to gain NZQA approval to deliver the New Zealand Certificate in Workplace Health and Safety Practice (Level 4). In the meantime, learners who achieve the unit standards attached to this course will have this added to their NZ Record of Achievement from NZQA.​​
