COVID-19 Update: Country-wide Alert Level 4 lockdown

The three-day Alert Level 4 lockdown from midnight tonight for the whole country, and seven days for Auckland and Coromandel, does not come as a complete surprise. Just last week the Government signalled that it would move hastily to a short, sharp lockdown in line with its elimination strategy, and let’s hope this does the trick.

It is unclear whether this is the more easily spread Delta variant, but regardless the response is the same - only essential services such as supermarkets, dairies and pharmacies are allowed to open, people must stay in their bubbles, wear masks when out, not gather, and keep 2m distant from others.

We know businesses have been excellent at managing previous lockdowns and keeping people safe, but we also know how hard it is to be closed. It was pleasing to hear directly from Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Grant Robertson during tonight’s announcement that there would be economic support for business.

The Wage Subsidy Scheme through WINZ has been triggered, which supports eligible employers who experience loss in revenue of more than 40 per cent, and this amount has been increased since last time to $600 for a full-time employee and $359 for a part time employee. This would be paid in a two-week lump sum.

The Resurgence Support Payment through the IRD is also in play, which applies to a 30 per cent loss of revenue, and is up to $1500, plus $400 per employee up to a maximum of 50. It is important to know that if you are eligible you can use both of these. There is more detail to come but applications will be accepted from Friday.

Please keep visiting the and keep yourselves and your people healthy, safe and well based on the Ministry of Health guidelines.
