COVID-19 Update: Country-wide Alert Level 4 lockdown continues

The entire country remains at Alert Level 4 for the full seven days, until midnight on Tuesday, August 24. As of today, Saturday August 21, there are 51 cases confirmed infected by the latest outbreak of COVID-19.

Of the 21 new cases today 18 were in Auckland three in Wellington. More than 5000 contacts of these people have already been identified, and another 5000 are expected to by the end of the day.

Additional locations of interest have been added and people should check to see if they were in the exactly same location, at the exact same time. Anyone identified as a contact needs to isolate and call Healthline on 0800 358 5453.

Additional testing centres and priority measures for contacts have been put in place, and the Prime Minister’s update today stressed the things everyone should be doing to keep safe, including:

  • Stay home and keep to your bubble. Your bubble is your household, and anyone that may be dependent on you.
  • Only leave home for essential services: visiting the supermarket, exercise, getting tested, or receiving urgent medical care.
  • When leaving home for essential exercise, please wear a mask and physically distance from those outside your bubble.

It is pleasing to see that the number of people getting tested yesterday reached a daily record, with more than 50,000 getting vaccinated.
