Supervision - An Introduction

Who should attend

The course is designed for newly appointed or soon to be promoted supervisors, team leaders, Foremen and Leading Hands. The course is ideally suited to people who are new to the job, are soon to be promoted to a supervisory position, or as a refresher.

What will I learn

The course provides the essential knowledge and skills that every Supervisor/Team Leader needs for managing people. It covers leadership, motivation and communications - the vital components for achieving through their team. This course will show you clear and simple ways to communicate goals and objectives to your team, to ensure you have a common purpose. At the end of the day, Supervisors are only as good as their people. It makes good sense, therefore, to obtain the skills with which to manage and lead, using behaviours that encourage the people to do well in their work.

• The role and responsibilities of the Supervisor
• The ideal qualities, characteristics and skills needed for    supervising people
• Making the transition to a supervisory position
• The benefits of good delegation
• How to delegate - a method
• Understanding motivation and what it is for different    people
• The Win/Win principle of conflict resolution
• Having an effective 1:1 with a staff member – a structure • The communication process • Listening, questioning and    clarifying

• Effectively and confidently instruct a team of people
• Understand the key principles of supervision
• Motivate and develop your team to continuously improve    performance
• Be more confident in dealing with difficult situations   decisively
