Health and Safety Representative Training -
Stage 1
What will I learn
The programme supports longer-term training needs through the preparation by participants of an on-going development plan for future learning based on the needs of the position, and their individual current skills sets and also provides initial support for representatives in a new and unfamiliar workplace role.
Workshop Content
Introduction to Workplace Health and Safety: Core Concepts - The problem - The legislative solution - The new approach
Employee Participation - Responsibility of management, and delegated responsibilities - Shared accountabilities – role of a safety committee.
Good Faith in Practice - Communication issues and concepts: the communications model - Concept of good faith in workplace communication.
Role of the Health & Safety Representative
Hazard Management
Accident and Emergency Investigation and reporting
Workplace Health and Safety Culture: Peer Support and Care
Representatives Wider Roles: Networks and Resources
Productivity Improvements
On leaving this course you will be able to:
Promote management of health and safety issues, through the use of sound hazard management systems and practices
Foster good faith communication and co-operation between various work areas/groups
Facilitate constructive input from those doing the work, through employee participation processes
Meet the objectives of relevant employment statutes
Special note: In order to have participants from ‘like’ industries together, we are offering the training in two category options: Manufacturing Option for participants in a manufacturing type industry and Workplaces Option for office based participants.

Funded Cost:

$100.00 + GST = ($112.50)
The funding is available to specific groups within those industries and are identified by their PCU code issued by ACC.
This PCU code number will be needed to check eligibility for funding of individual participants. Click Here for a list of these codes.
The courses are supported by funding from ACC and the Employment Relations Education Fund.
There is no certainty that the current support funding will continue. These prices reflect the current Government funding policies – should there be a change in funding, the full cost will apply. Any changes in policy will be reflected on our website.
